If you’re considering your senior living options, you’re likely wondering, how will you spend your time once you’re free from day-to-day household chores and responsibilities?
If you’ve never visited a friend who lives in an independent living community, your view of these communities may not be accurate, as there are plenty of myths surrounding senior living. Today, we’re demystifying independent senior living and giving you an inside look at what your future could hold in a Bethesda community, including our amenities, delicious dining options, robust social calendar, and more.
Beginning the Day in Independent Senior Living
It’s a new day at Bethesda! No matter what time a resident prefers to wake up in the morning, they have plenty of options for a delicious breakfast, whether in their apartment for a relaxing start to the day, or in the dining area where they can meet with friends.
To start the morning out right, some of our Bethesda communities, such as Barclay House, offer morning exercise or yoga classes to help residents get an energizing start to their day. Not an early bird? We also offer wellness-centered activities and classes throughout the day so everyone can join in!
Enjoying Mid-Day Activities
One of the greatest benefits of independent senior living is the low-maintenance lifestyle. Residents can pursue their passions, participate in their hobbies, and catch up with friends on their own time.
Lunch is a great opportunity for residents to get together for good conversation and delicious food. Whether meeting new friends or catching up with current ones, lunch is a time to socialize and plan the rest of the day.
Although healthy and delicious chef-prepared meals are standard in our Bethesda communities, some residents take this opportunity to get out on the town and try out local restaurants with friends. They may even make a day out of it with a trip to local museums, theaters, casinos, or other attractions in St. Louis organized by the activities staff.
For residents who want to stay in for the day, there are plenty of activities to participate in! From Monday afternoon movies to drawing and painting classes, card games, and even specialized events such as fashion shows and local musicians, there’s always something going on!
Many of our daily activities center on wellness. Our wellness programs accommodate different abilities and skill sets, so everyone has the opportunity to join in, no matter their fitness level.
Our communities and activities are also designed to provide opportunities for residents to engage with others and meet new friends. This includes our popular happy hours, which enable residents to meet new people with similar interests while snacking on delicious cheeses and sipping wine.
Spending Evenings in Senior Living
Dinner is a social affair at Bethesda. Residents can catch up over an evening meal, with a variety of options to please most every palate. However, if residents prefer, they may choose to enjoy a quiet meal in their apartment after a full day of activity.
When dinner ends, that doesn’t necessarily mean the night ends! There are plenty of formal and informal activities for residents to engage in and enjoy each evening. For example, residents may choose to grab a few friends for a game of bridge, discuss the latest book they’re reading in their book club, or head to a community movie night.
After a day spent engaging in hobbies and activities, it’s time to wind down for the night in their private apartment by reading, watching TV, or chatting with their children or grandchildren.
