Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who gave their lives for our country. It is customary to remember those who served by visiting graveyards and war monuments. One of the biggest Memorial Day traditions is for the President or Vice President to give a speech and lay a wreath on soldiers’ graves at Arlington National Cemetery, in Virginia.
Senior living residents at Bethesda Orchard and Bethesda Terrace keep the flame of memory burning for loved ones lost in our nation’s service on Monday during their annual Memorial Day ceremony.
This special event offers the opportunity for our veterans and families to come together to honor and remember fallen soldiers for their loyal and dedicated service to our country.
Families and residents gathered together and lit tea lights in memory of their lost loved ones. Leslie Peasel, Bereavement Coordinator for Bethesda Hospice Care, read the names of those who gave their lives to our country in wars. A poem reading and taps closed the ceremony, which was very moving.
