Shelby Harp, RN Case Manager at Bethesda Hospice Care, is the winner of the October Hospice Caregiver Award presented by Baue Funeral Homes.

Shelby was nominated by Dana Airsman, Director of Hospice Services who described her with these words…

Shelby Harp truly has a calling for caring for the dying and their families. She goes above and beyond the call of duty for her patients consistently. Some examples of Shelby’s dedication are responding to home patients needs after hours on her own time when she is not on call. Spending time sitting with families after a death to ensure they feel at peace with the care they received. Shelby has made phone calls to families on the weekends just to make sure they were “okay”.

Shelby’s demeanor and ability to discern the needs of the patients and families goes beyond what can be taught in a university or a seminar. She has walked many families through the decline and passing of their loved ones, guiding them through each step and allowing them to be angry, sad or relieved without judgment and with reassurance. Her ability to be calm and reassuring when things don’t go as expected is a guiding force for team members and families in crisis. She brings a calming presence to every situation.

Shelby is an asset to Bethesda Hospice Care in every way and I feel truly honored to work with such an amazing person.

Thank you Shelby for your caring devotion, joyful spirit and compassion to the community.
