With an investment of $40, and a compassionate and generous vision of a home devoted to caring for elderly women, Elizabeth and Roger Hayne, along with their friend Dr. Edward Saunders, created in 1889 what has expanded into today’s Bethesda Health Group.

For more than five years, Amy Trau, R.N., served on the Bethesda Leadership Team as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. A dream of hers was to establish an Assisted Living community to serve the needs of seniors in the Kirkwood/Webster area – a dream that became reality in the creation of Bethesda Hawthorne Place.
Ted Stein has spent a lifetime making a difference in the lives of others. As a general surgeon, his work required skill, compassion and an unrelenting dedication to his patients. Now retired, Ted continues to make a difference—not in the operating room, but through his generosity.
Raised in Sikeston, Missouri, Jo was the youngest of nine children growing up during the challenging times of the Great Depression. Despite lacking material wealth, she was rich in love and familial support, and those feelings translated into her exceptional gift.
Charlie Amen is principal of the law firm Amen, Gantner & Capriano, Your Estate Matters, L.L.C., and has supported a number of Bethesda initiatives over the years.
