Father’s Day at Bethesda: Bob

It’s Father’s Day and we sat down with one of our Fathers of Bethesda, Bob, along with Donna (daughter), Michelle (granddaughter-in-law), and Mackenzie (great-granddaughter) to learn more about what makes Bob so special! This beloved Bethesda Terrace resident is always on the move and never misses a chance to spend time with his family.

How would you describe his parenting style?

Michelle: I would say his grandparenting style is sweet, loving, and kind.

Donna: He’s the best person I’ve known in my life. I don’t remember him ever raising his voice ever. He’s just very calm and you can count on him. And I think everyone feels that way. He’s very nurturing to everyone.

Bob: I pay them good.

Michelle: Yes he does…in chocolate.

What’s one of your favorite things about Bob?

Donna: He’s our teacher. He’s very faithful. He taught us to love Jesus and love God. That’s the #1 thing with Dad.

Michelle: He guides us. He’s always got good words and funny things to say. He has a big heart and he cares about everybody he meets. When he talks to people, he talks with compassion. He’s so busy, it’s hard for us to catch him when he’s not busy. He’s spunky!

Donna: Just this morning, her son was student of the month and Grandpa was there. He doesn’t miss anything if he doesn’t have to.

Do you have a favorite memory together?

Michelle: Mine is fishing. He’s always taking off everybody’s fish.

Donna: And putting the worms on.

Bob: The whole family loves to fish. If I taught them anything, it’s how to fish.

Donna: I think my best memory is him with the kids. He’s always so good with our children. He’s just very loving and happy. He’s always happy.

Do you have any advice for young parents?

Bob: I think you should always show your love and affection for your family. I think a well-loved family is a blessing that only God can give you.

And when asked about his life at Bethesda Terrace…

Bob: I love it. My wife and me moved in together and she passed away in November of that same year. She really loved it here.

Donna: We don’t come to see Dad because we feel like we have to, it’s because we want to be here. We eat here with him and it’s just like home.  We know so many people here and they all know Mackenzie.

Michelle: She’s really the star of the show.
