Bethesda’s Hospice Care’s Annual Memorial Walk has always upheld the standard and honor of remembering loved ones who have died. This year, we would like to add even more meaning to the event by renaming it The KAYMAN 5K, to honor Brian Kayman and all of those who lost a loved one to COVID-19. Brian was the office manager and dedicated employee of Bethesda Hospice Care for the last 18 years. He sadly lost his battle with COVID-19 in November of 2020. By renaming this annual memorial event in Brian’s honor, we are not only remembering and honoring him, but acknowledging all of the pain and loss that COVID-19 has brought so many of us. We are collectively grieving as a society but we offer this event as a stepping stone to work through grief and loss towards more peace and healing.

As our primary goal is to protect the health of our community, this year we are offering two options to participate! We will resume our Annual Memorial Walk/Run in Queeny Park for all those who wish to attend in person or a virtual participation option as well. As always, our event is free and open to the community.

Virtual Option

Our virtual 5K is a Run/Walk at your own pace, location and time between registering for the event and September 25th. Upon registration please indicate if you will be participating virtually and if you wish to have a ribbon with your loved ones name on it added to the Celebration of Life Wreath on the 25th. Please indicate if you would like to have your loved one’s name read aloud during the Opening Ceremony. Once you have completed registration, you will receive an email with a runner’s bib. This will take the place of the ribbon you would wear with your loved one’s name. You can print it out, write your loved one’s name on it and attach it to you shirt during your walk or run.

On Saturday, September 25th we will live stream our annual memorial opening ceremony and race from Queeny Park for all to watch and join virtually. Details for accessing this will be emailed to you upon completing registration. If you choose the virtual option for the 5K, you will not be eligible to receive a T-Shirt for the event.
