- September 8-October 7: 9 a.m.–5 p.m. daily with some exceptions.
- October 8–December 31: 9 a.m.–4 p.m. daily
The Zoo continues to prioritize accessibility, offering wheelchair and electric scooter rentals and wheelchair‑accessible restrooms throughout the grounds. Parking is cashless and available for a fee.
2. Missouri Botanical Gardens
A peaceful stroll through the Missouri Botanical Garden is a perfect fall activity for seniors.

6. Soulard Oktoberfest
Soulard Oktoberfest remains one of the region’s most popular fall traditions!
2026 Dates:
- October 9–10
- Friday: 3:30 p.m.–10 p.m.
- Saturday: 11 a.m.–10:30 p.m.
Held in Soulard Market Park, the event features traditional German bands, food, beer, and a festive atmosphere. Admission is free and the event is family‑friendly.
7. Kimmswick Apple Butter Festival
A short drive down I‑55 leads to one of Missouri’s most beloved fall festivals.
2026 Dates:
- October 24–25
- 10 a.m.–5 p.m. both days
The Apple Butter Festival draws more than 100,000 visitors each year. Guests enjoy dozens of food vendors, craft booths, live entertainment, and the irresistible aroma of apple butter. Parking is available in multiple lots with shuttle service into town. Please note: grounds are often uneven and may not be wheelchair or walker-friendly.
