Examples of health-monitoring devices for seniors:

Medminder.

This locked pill dispenser is programmed to unlock when it’s time to take medications and allows a caregiver to monitor the activity remotely. The dispenser will beep if the medication is not taken at the correct time. If the beep doesn’t properly alert the senior, a pre-recorded voice message from a loved one can issue a reminder instead. Additionally, a phone call can be placed to both the senior and a family caregiver if the medication still has not been taken.

Rest Assured.

With this in-home monitoring service, family members can access live videos and senior alerts through a protected portal online.

The system can detect these events and more:

  • Motion
  • Opening of doors and windows
  • Smoke or carbon monoxide
  • Temperature
  • Chair or bed occupancy

GrandCare Systems.

GrandCare Systems offers a comprehensive array of services, including home-monitoring, activity tracking, and medication management via remote sensors and communication technology. Caregivers and family members can receive notifications about daily activity, missed reminders and more.

KardiaMobile.

This device, which is small enough to fit in a pocket, is an FDA-cleared personal EKG. It captures an EKG in 30 seconds and provides instant analysis via a smartphone app. It has no wires, patches or gels. The user simply places his or her fingers on sensors.

The EKGs can be saved or shared. With the press of a button, the senior can email the information to a physician. KardiaMobile is compatible with most Android or iOS smartphones.

Dexcom G6 CGM.

This system provides continuous glucose monitoring with no finger sticks or calibrations. Using a smart phone or tablet and receiver, the user immediately obtains glucose readings. Also, the data can be shared with caregivers or physicians.
